weLcome to the 2023–24 concert season
Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2023–24 concert season focuses on community—the community that, over the past century and a half, jazz has built by touching millions of people all over the world. That global community has nurtured and influenced the music’s master practitioners, bridged divides and united polarized communities, and maintained human connection—indeed, maintained our humanity itself—in an increasingly digital, atomized era.
“Music has an important role in bringing people together,” says our Managing & Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis. “It has a convening power. And in jazz, the question has always been: Who is our community? We, of course, are subject to the same type of tribal impulses that infect not just our nation, but the world. Everybody wants to fight for power from their position, however they perceive themselves. Our music has always been something that brings people together, and it’s easy to find stories of that in the music. That’s what is done. So, we’re reaffirming Jazz at Lincoln Center’s commitment to that value with this season.”
Over the course of our season, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s stages will feature 2023 Grammy Award-winner Samara Joy; the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis performing Marsalis’s acclaimed small-group compositions; a career retrospective of Terence Blanchard; beloved vocalist Catherine Russell; milestone celebrations of Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan, and Max Roach; a concert honoring late jazz icon Wayne Shorter; annual appearances by Steve Miller and Dianne Reeves; and much, much more!
